When Squeezing Isn't Enough
sometimes it takes a little help to know when fruit* is ready to eat.
david and i were food shopping this weekend and as we passed through the produce section he decided he wanted an avocado. the pile was quite high, as usual, with a lot of hard fruit*. he kept squeezing and handing one to me asking, "is this one ripe?" "how about this one?" then finally he hit gold:
thank goodness for labels ;-)
*avocados are fruit contrary to what many believe.

so helpful of them to label the fruit! If only everything was that easy! we bought avocados the other day and within a couple of days they were soft as can be...did make a lovely guacamole, though! ;)
it should also say "and sticky". i hate labels on fruit. it almost always leaves a sticky residue
Did the sticker say "Covered in wax and other Chemical Preservatives to insure freshness" on the other side of the label?
No?
I blame David...
of course it's fruit! it's got a seed in it! like tomatoes, & cucumbers.
I've gotten really good at choosing avocados but it took some time.
